The Story Behind the Name ScootAble

Many people are curious about our name lol. So we got you, no worries. Like to hear it, hear it goes…

ScootAble started with a simple idea about movement.

Originally, the name we explored was “Scooch,” inspired by the old phrase many of us grew up hearing: “Scooch over here.” It’s a gentle invitation to move closer, make room, and come together.

But when we discovered another nonprofit was already using that name, we went back to the drawing board. We wanted something just as simple, a one word name that people would remember but also something that carried deeper meaning.

That’s how ScootAble was born.

To scoot means to move forward, even if it’s slowly. It means using whatever strength you have in the moment to shift from one place to another.

And that idea felt deeply connected to the divorce journey.

Healing during or after divorce is not fast. The process itself can take time and the emotional rebuilding that follows can take even longer. Progress doesn’t usually happen in big leaps, it happens in small movements forward.

Sometimes those movements are itty bitty or tiny.

But they still matter.

ScootAble represents the belief that forward movement is always possible, even when it feels slow or uncertain.

It’s about giving yourself grace during the process.
It’s about recognizing that healing unfolds in its own time.
And it’s about remembering that even the smallest step forward is still progress.

Because no matter how slowly you move, you are still ScootAble.
